Awards
SC21 awards
SC21 is rightly famed for its awards. Recognised by 13 OEMs and the MOD, the SC21 awards are a great way to highlight your maturity, quality and delivery successes to the wider sector. However, they are not mandatory.
Gaining an award is based on three separate requirements:
· Your score in a Practitioner led BMA
· Your quality & delivery data (Q&D)
· That you have a CSIP

BMA Score
Your score must be generated as the result of a Practitioner led BMA. The Practitioner must be a properly qualified assessor.
Quality & Delivery Data
Quality & Delivery Data
Q&D data is essential for those seeking an SC21, but it can be an important KPI for companies whatever their intentions. For this reason, it is recommended that all companies collect Q&D data, starting at the earliest opportunity.
Ultimately the key goal is, in time, to achieve zero defects and 100% on-time delivery (in both product and service environments) at all stages of the product/service lifecycle.
It is important to note that to achieve an SC21 award:
Q&D performance will consist of 12 consecutive rolling performance data points representing the last 12 months
Each monthly rolling performance figure shall be the average performance for its preceding 12 months
Therefore 23 months of data is required to demonstrate 12 months of rolling performance data
All 12 data points must equal or exceed the standard to qualify for an award
Completing a submission template may assist you with your calculations
The data will only be shared with the SC21 Industry Approval Board (IAB) members, who have each signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
Q&D Targets for award

To meet the Q&D requirement, you will need to collect data based upon the following definitions
Quality
Customer acceptance or reject rate is a good indicator of quality. Meeting quality targets not only improves customer satisfaction but also reduces costs by eliminating scrap, rework and unnecessary inspection.
‘rejects’ = units out of specification and not accepted on concession.
The percentage must include 2 significant digits after the decimal point.
Delivery
Delivery schedule achievement is fundamental to a high performing supply chain and poor performance in this area has a detrimental effect on both customer satisfaction and customer performance.
The percentage must include 2 significant digits after the decimal point.
Conduct of Practitioner Led BMA
Conduct of the Practitioner Led BMA
A practitioner led BMA will be conducted by a qualified Practitioner who may be a 3rd party consultant (with whom you will contract directly), or from an OEM who may provide the assessment at no cost.
All are trained to the same high standard, but exact timings may vary between organisations that you might engage with.
What you can expect from your Practitioner
The minimum time you can expect a Practitioner to be ‘onsite’ is one day, but bear in mind that this would be for a small and un-complicated company. Larger and more complicated enterprises may require a combination of more Practitioners and/or more time based upon the table below

· Your Practitioner(s) are unlikely to be able to come to any final conclusions about your assessment whilst they are onsite. They will need to take away the information, confer with the rest of the team, complete administrative tasks and report back, all of which may take a few days
· Assessments for potential ‘Silver’ companies may require more than one Practitioner
· Assessments for potential ‘Gold’ companies must have at least two Practitioners
· Your Practitioner should be able to help you with preparing a submission for an award and with your CSIP. They are a mine of useful information, so make the most of them!
Your submission can be made by yourself or your practitioner using the standard submission template.
· The submission should be sent to Nancy Jardine [email protected]
· Once the submission is received by ADS, it will undergo an initial check to make sure that all elements have been provided and that the Q&D data works. You may well get follow up questions at this stage
· When the submission is ready, it will be forwarded to the Industry Approval Board (IAB), this is a group of industry professionals (usually from the OEMs) that will review your submission and make/or reject an SC21 award. All members of the IAB have signed an NDA
· Assuming there are no further questions from the IAB you can expect a result in circa 10 working days after the submission was forwarded to them
