Overview of the Maturity Model (Bronze, Silver, Gold)

Overview of the Maturity Model: Bronze, Silver, Gold

Progress isn’t a finish line — it’s a journey. The SCS Framework helps organisations build long-term capability through a clear and realistic maturity model. Rather than pass/fail assessments or abstract targets, it offers structured levels that reflect how your organisation grows, strengthens, and leads over time.

At its heart, the SCS maturity model is about recognising and supporting meaningful improvement — wherever you’re starting from.

Why Maturity Matters

Every organisation is at a different stage in its development. The maturity model helps you:

  • Understand your current state — and where you can grow

  • Focus effort where it makes the biggest difference

  • Plan improvement in a structured way

  • Gain recognition for capability and progress

This isn’t about achieving perfection. It’s about having a shared language for progress, aligned with what really matters in your business.

The Three Levels

All SCS assessments use a shared model with three maturity levels:

🟤 Bronze – Foundations in Place

Your organisation is starting its structured improvement journey. Key practices are defined and early systems or approaches are in place, though they may still vary in consistency or reach.

  • Clear intent and planning visible

  • Initial processes or activities underway

  • Early-stage documentation or systems present

⚪ Silver – Embedded and Consistent

Your organisation has moved from planning to practice. Core activities are embedded, processes are repeatable, and performance is more consistent across teams or sites.

  • Defined roles and responsibilities

  • Documented approaches in active use

  • Evidence of ongoing measurement and refinement

🟡 Gold – Leading and Optimised

Your organisation demonstrates strong, consistent performance. Practices are optimised, results are measurable, and there’s evidence of leadership, innovation, or sector alignment.

  • Mature systems and governance

  • Strategic alignment with customer or market needs

  • Continuous improvement and knowledge sharing

What the Maturity Model Enables

  • Self-awareness – See where you are and benchmark your progress

  • Prioritisation – Focus on what matters most for your business right now

  • Progress Planning – Map realistic improvement steps using structured criteria

  • Recognition – Gain validation and external confidence through formal certification

Maturity levels aren’t about ticking boxes — they reflect your organisation’s capability, consistency, and confidence in practice.

Used Across Every Pillar

This model applies across all three pillars of the SCS Framework:

  • Competitiveness

  • ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance)

  • Digital & Cyber

Because the same maturity scale is used in each area, it creates consistency in how progress is measured and recognised. It also allows organisations to grow in focused areas — without needing to be “Gold everywhere” to benefit.

Progress You Can Build On

Maturity levels in SCS are not scores to chase — they’re milestones on a real business journey. Bronze and Silver are credible, valuable levels of maturity that show customers and partners you are serious about improvement. Gold reflects best-in-class capability, but it’s not the only destination worth celebrating.

No matter your current level, what matters most is this: You know where you are. You know where you're heading. And you have the structure to get there.

Tip: You don’t have to be “Gold everywhere” — Bronze and Silver reflect meaningful progress and real business value.
